Protecting Vulnerable Communities Through Heat Stroke Awareness & Rural Outreach
Promoting Preventive Healthcare Awareness and Rural Community Resilience
2/27/2026

Grow Together conducted a comprehensive Heat Stroke Awareness and Community Outreach Program in the remote village of Tamaka, Jajpur, located nearly 122 km from Bhubaneswar. The initiative aimed to support underserved communities facing extreme summer conditions, limited healthcare awareness, and socio-economic challenges.
Addressing the Growing Impact of Extreme Heat
With rising temperatures and increasing heat-related illnesses across rural regions, the program focused on educating villagers about the risks associated with heat stroke and dehydration. Community members were made aware of practical preventive measures such as:
Avoiding outdoor exposure between 11 AM and 3 PM
Staying hydrated and carrying water bottles
Using wet towels to regulate body temperature
Wearing caps or using umbrellas for protection against direct sunlight
The awareness session emphasized the importance of preventive healthcare practices, especially for vulnerable populations with limited access to medical facilities.

Providing Immediate Relief Support
As part of the initiative, Grow Together distributed free umbrellas to 102 villagers to help them cope with the scorching summer heat. The distribution aimed to provide immediate relief while reinforcing the importance of personal protection during extreme weather conditions.
The program not only focused on awareness but also ensured practical support for community members who are often underserved and overlooked.
Understanding Grassroots Challenges
During community interactions, the Grow Together team actively listened to the concerns and challenges faced by villagers. Several key issues emerged, including:
High incidence of malaria
Educational marginalization
Unemployment and lack of skill opportunities
Limited awareness regarding government welfare schemes
The engagement helped the organization better understand local realities and identify areas requiring long-term intervention.
Creating Awareness About Government Support Programs
To further support the community, awareness sessions were conducted regarding various government initiatives such as:
Ayushman Bharat for accessible healthcare support
CTTC Skill Development Programs for employment and vocational opportunities
Villagers were encouraged to utilize these schemes to improve healthcare access, employability, and financial stability.
Towards Sustainable Community Development
Grow Together assured the villagers of continued engagement and future support initiatives aimed at addressing local challenges to the best of the organization’s capacity. The program received heartfelt appreciation from residents and community leaders, reflecting the importance of grassroots-driven outreach and compassionate social action.
Through initiatives like these, Grow Together continues to promote preventive healthcare awareness, rural resilience, and inclusive community development across underserved regions..
